Clermont, Fla. – Wednesday night marked the November Board of Trustees meeting for Lake-Sumter State College. During the meeting, the board approved the addition of Men's and Women's Cross Country to the South Lake campus.

The two teams will make up the fourth and fifth NJCAA sanctioned athletic programs offered by Lake-Sumter State College. Both teams will join volleyball as a fall sport and will provide 8-12 roster spots each. Cross Country will open their inaugural season in the fall of 2019.

Men's and women's Cross Country became the first sports added to Lake-Sumter since the college brought back athletics in 1998 and will be the first sports offered at the South Lake campus. They will join the more than 60 NJCAA programs already competing across the country.

"We are excited to bring Lakehawk athletics to the South Lake Campus," said Athletic Director, Mike Matulia. "It will provide opportunities for our local cross country runners to compete for our athletic program."

Coach Matulia will start an immediate search for the first cross country coach in program history. If you would like more information, please contact Coach Matulia at 352-323-3643 or by email, matuliami@lssc.edu.
