Brooke Walker & Mari Comartin, Beach Volleyball
Named Region 8 Pair of the Week on March 25
Mariana Comartin and Brooke Walker were named the Florida College System Activities Association (FCSAA) Region 8 Beach Volleyball Pair of the Week for their performance in the No. 4 pair spot from Mar. 10-23. Comartin and Walker become just the second pair in program history to earn this honor for Lakehawk Beach Volleyball.
Comartin and Walker took the court together for the first time on March 14 and have gone on to win their last seven straight duels, including three of those wins coming in a third set.
In the pair’s debut match against Barry University, Comartin pushed through calf cramps to overcome a 13-8 deficit in the third set to help the Lakehawks to a 3-2 victory over the Buccaneers at the Palm Beach Atlantic Invitational.
The next day of the tournament, the team was unable to find wins against two four-year opponents, Wingate University and Emmanuel University, but Comartin and Walker logged the only duel wins for the team. They defeated Wingate’s 4s pair in two sets, 21-18, 21-16 before defeating Emmanuel’s 4s pair, 21-19, 21-18.
Since then, Comartin and Walker have racked up duel wins against Stevenson University, Webber International University, and Florida State College at Jacksonville.
